Aboriginal Energy

The quickly evolving nature of renewable energy technologies, including the dramatically dropping costs could have significant implications for communities across Canada, including First Nations, Métis and Inuit. Renewable energy provides a way of producing energy that is more respectful of and less harmful to natural systems, as well as offering a new means of achieving social and economic prosperity.

Our research efforts thus far focused on tracking First Nation, Metis and Inuit involvement in the renewable energy sector across Canada. The next step will be an attempt to understand the challenges and opportunities these groups face. Our goal is to contribute to a conversation about how these developments can be fostered in a way that honours people and planet.
